I am aware there are a million and three blog entries on this...
But really.
Iced coffee really needs to be its own food group. It's really that good.
At my local Starbucks grande "iced coffee with fat free milk" (Sometimes I just say 'with fat free' and the cashier understands what I mean) is about $2.60. Therefore, feeding my little addiction is getting to be very pricey.
So! I started to make it at home.
Obviously, drinking iced coffee at home isn't near as fun as watching the cute baristas at Star-buckles, but hey! I'm on a budget.
Step 1 Prepare the coffee-making process like you normally do. Just use double the coffee grinds.
Step 2 Brew the coffee over ice. If you are using an auto coffee maker, put crushed ice in the pot.
Step 3 Pour into a glass of ice. Add milk and/or any flavorings you wish. For the Starbucks effect, add a green straw.
I've made it with Folgers and "high end" beans. Do yourself and favor (a rather BIG one) and use the stuff that is whole and costs more then your car.
I gotta say, I do not recommend brewing it onto ice- it "shocks" the coffee and can give it a bitter, "old" flavor. Just brew it double strength, chill it, pour it over ice. Then stir to dilute as the ice in the glass melts.
