Some background stuff you may want to know: it's written in the law that retailers have to notify customers, who order something via catalog or on-line and being shipped to their house, if the shipment is going to be late. Remember Best Buy last Christmas? They couldn't full online orders fast enough to ship them out in time? Yeah, well, they were required by law to contact each and every one of those buyers who would be getting their order late. Or else they get punished. Personally, I think it's pretty obvious who takes this law seriously (and who doesn't).
I'm pretty sure many of you have heard of Amazon. And maybe how great their return policy is or at least their A-to-Z guarantee. This stories upon stories about how awesome Amazon is. While, consider these one of those stories.
1. Andrew ordered a bunch of stuff. However, he realized (after it shipped out) that the stuff would be delivered to our old house and our tenants will most likely get the package. He contact Amazon's customer service and they sent him the very same stuff. For free. Next Day Delivery, which was a Saturday.
2. I ordered some stuff. One of this "stuff" was a cat toy. Since I am a Prime member, I got free 2-day shipping on this item. Later in the day, I got an email saying my cat toy is stuck in AZ and would be late because of UPS equipment failure and will be here on Monday and not Friday. Thus making the item 3-4 day shipping. HOWEVER, upon hearing about the UPS equipment failure, Amazon immediately took actions into their own hands...and special Saturday delivered me my cat toy. I am impressed.
3. I ordered a step aerobics dvd on Thursday. It was on my door step the following afternoon. It came from California.
I read in one of my text books that Amazon is running their Prime program at a loss. However, they want to be the leader in their industry and will bend-over-backwards to keep a customer. Personally, Amazon is one of those companies that want to do the right thing all the time. There's really a lot at stake...stockholders and the general public. Sometimes operating at a short term loss means big time results. Guess who's my favorite online retailer, now?
pretty impressive
