A few days ago I went to my local library to get some cookbooks for viewing pleasure. I am drawn to cookbooks with more traditional recipes...meatloaf, casseroles, steaks. I also like cookbooks with pretty pictures. That being said, most library cookbooks get a thumb through and then put back on the shelf...and I just get more frustrated...find a "traditional" cookbook with great modern graphics is really hard to find!
Then I saw it.
The title sounded vaguely familiar. Like I've heard about it on some NPR program. The subtitle contains something about Route 66...cafe? I opened it up to find beautiful pictures and amazingly written recipes. I needed to check Dollar To Donuts out.
I brought the book into work. Paging through it, I started making a list of recipes that I found good or at least, worth a try. At the end of the night, my receipt-tape list contained 15 or more recipes. IMHO, this book was a keeper! In fact, I got home and went to www.amazon.com and ordered my very own copy.
The layout is very simple and easy to understand/following. Because Dawn Welch owes the infamous Route 66 cafe, she is very food-cost conscious. (Almost have to be when you own a restaurant.) So on the top of every recipe containing page, Dawn calculates the recipe out to cost per serving. And she also throws in some culinary tips...makes the book fun and interesting.
I can hardly wait for my own copy to arrive!

That's a great way to preview a book..I forget to do that. Dad says he would be fat if he lived with you!
