I recommend searching the catalog and making a Google Spreadsheet of items you want and how much it is. If you are a budgeter make a column for "how much item actual costs."
Here's five things I really recommend buying:
- Down comforter and matching duvet cover. If you live in Michigan, you need a down comforter. Period. Comforters at Ikea are pretty cheap, yet high quality. I got one of the cheaper comforters (synthetic down), but good gravy! This thing is warm! I found some super awesome flannel sheets at my local Meijer (50% off+20% any clearance item). I never, EVER want it get out of bed. So toasty warm.
- TP holder. Toilet paper holders are toilet paper holders. Right? 1-Someone in our house has a little problem with putting the new roll on the holder....and that bugs the crap out of me more than under vs. over. I wanted a new TP holder than didn't have the springy bar thing, just one that you place the roll on...so, it would be super duper easy to place the roll on the/a holder. Secondly, European designed tp holders are so much sexier than American designed holders.
- Silverware/Flatware. Flatware is super cheap at Ikea.
- Kitchen towels. What I love about Ikea dishtowels? They are super cheap. And the printed ones are really cute. With Ikea towels I don't feel bad about getting a towel stained or something.
- Chocolate. I love, love love! Milk chocolate with hazelnuts. And really, how could you NOT put Ikea chocolate in your shopping cart? Seriously.
